Part Three: Remember What He Wants to Accomplish

This month, we have focused on discerning God's voice and deepening our relationship with Him. Throughout the book, Priscilla has done a wonderful job breaking down factors that increase our discernment. In the first part, we discussed recognizing how he speaks and creating more opportunities to hear his voice in prayer. Next, in part two, we discussed recognizing the sound of his voice and the strongholds that can hinder your ability to hear his voice. Lastly, part three focuses on remembering what God wants to accomplish in your life. Priscilla discusses the importance of understanding why God would speak to you, because his voice will instruct and guide you in fulfilling the purpose he has for you. Priscilla gives us two questions that clarify why God would speak to us: What are his goals for you? And what does he desire to accomplish? Priscilla believes that recognizing and understanding the answers to both questions will help us differentiate between the voice of the enemy and the voice of God.

Key Insights From Part Three

Moving from Mental Knowledge to Experiential Knowledge: One key insight that resonates with me is when Priscilla states, "He doesn’t want you just to hear his voice; he wants you to experience him fully." This quote resonates with me as I reflect on my own challenging situations and the lessons I have learned along the way. I have realized my own circumstances have ultimately built my character, changed my mindset, and ultimately brought me closer to God.

"When God places you in a challenging situation, take it as a signal that he will be glorified and that you will know him in a deeper way" (pg. 160).

There are No Coincidences in the Will of God: The second key insight, Priscilla states, is that no situation you face is coincidental. God is revealing a lesson to you and wanting you to learn from it. Recognize that God has a greater plan for you; by submitting to him, you allow God to direct your path instead of taking control. Without directly relying on God, facing challenges, and experiencing breakthrough, an individual may struggle with submission and obedience. Through these experiences, the more you learn and the more willing you are to follow the path He is directing you to, the more your trust in Him will grow and the more willing you will be to let Him guide you.

Not Your Timing, But God’s Timing: This third insight focuses on God’s timing. Recognize that your speed and timing are different from God’s perfect timing. Today, we live in an age that demands instant gratification, which can lead to impatience. However, by listening for God's voice and allowing Him to move in your life, you will experience His perfect timing. Priscilla says God will show you what you need to know when you need to know it, and the timing of his message will be just as important as the message itself.

Obedience is a Requirement: Secondly, if you’re searching to hear the voice of God, you gotta be willing to obey his instructions. You have to be willing to take his instructions and carry them out without delay, doubt, or hesitation. You can’t choose to follow only the parts of his instructions that are convenient for you; you have to follow them completely.
